Web Technologies are divided into multiple scope areas to help focus the considerations and recommendations into related groups.  These scope areas define a ‘framework’ for the overall strategy.
A framework is a collection of technologies, standards, methodologies, processes, etc., which define the parts be used to construct a solution.  Thus, the Web Technologies Framework defines the high-level components that can be used to construct a web application or web infrastructure solution.

The primary framework components of the Web Technologies Strategy and roles are:

¨ Enterprise Web Application Architectures – provide high-level architectures and toolset standards for constructing web applications.

¨ Enterprise Web Application Hosting Infrastructure – provide an execution environment for web applications. Different software components typically focus on managing presentation and control (Web servers), and managing business and data access logic (web application servers).

¨ Enterprise Web Clients – provides a way to display web content and applications (HTML) on a user’s workstation or mobile device.

¨ Enterprise Portals – provide role based customized able presentation of applications and or web content.  May provide an execution environment for application presentation

¨ Enterprise Code management and development standards – defines tools and techniques for designing, constructing, and maintaining the code and configurations of web applications.

¨ Enterprise Collaboration tools – A class of applications that provides functions to support groups of users working together on shared tasks.

¨ Enterprise Content Management – A class of applications that provides functions to create and manage ‘content.  Within the scope of the web technology strategy, this function is limited to managing content displayed through a web (browser) interface.

¨ Enterprise Search – Provides a way to index and search web and file content.
